Mr-Glass Impact Garage Doors: The West Palm Beach Owner’s Guide

We stock and install Mr-Glass-compatible impact garage door systems in West Palm Beach, with installed replacement pricing typically running $2,800-$4,600 depending on door size, wind-load rating, and whether the track hardware also needs replacement. Most Mr-Glass impact doors we measure are single-car 8×7 or double-car 16×7 configurations rated for HVHZ (High Velocity Hurricane Zone) compliance, and we carry the reinforced track sets, impact-rated glazing retainers, and heavy-duty torsion hardware on our trucks. Most West Palm Beach homeowners discover a problem when the door hangs crooked, the impact glass shows spider cracking after a storm, or the opener strains and reverses - often because the spring system has fatigued or the impact glazing retainer clips have corroded in the salt air.

Which Mr-Glass Models This Applies To

Mr-Glass produces impact-rated garage doors across several series, and the part you need depends on which generation you own. The MG-Impact 150 and MG-Impact 250 series are the most common in West Palm Beach installations from 2016-2023; the 150 uses a 2-inch track with 14-gauge steel, while the 250 upgrades to a 3-inch track with 12-gauge steel and a higher cycle-count torsion spring. Check the interior face of the door for a metal spec label, usually mounted on the bottom right stile, or measure the track width with a tape measure - the difference between 2-inch and 3-inch track is not interchangeable, and we’ve seen homeowners order the wrong roller set more than once.

For glazing components, Mr-Glass uses a proprietary impact-glass retainer clip system with a 7/16-inch bite depth; generic hurricane clips will seat but will not hold the laminated glass securely under cyclic wind load. We stock both OEM Mr-Glass retainers and a verified aftermarket equivalent from CWS that meets the same ASTM E1886/E1996 large-missile impact standard. The OEM part runs higher; the CWS equivalent carries the same Miami-Dade NOA documentation and costs roughly 15% less. We specify which one we’re quoting before we order - Haven Clause 1, the price is written before any work starts.

If your door was installed by a previous contractor who substituted non-impact glass to cut cost, the retainer spacing may be wrong too. We check that during our measured survey, which you keep.

Signs Your Mr-Glass Impact Garage Door Is Failing

Signs Your Mr-Glass Impact Garage Door Is Failing
  • The door hangs unevenly or binds in the track. This usually means a torsion spring has lost tension or a cable has frayed. On Mr-Glass doors the added weight of impact-rated glazing - often 80-120 pounds heavier than a standard door - accelerates spring fatigue. We measure spring gap with a winding bar; if the coils are separated by more than 3/8 inch at rest, the spring is spent.
  • Impact glass shows spider cracking or delamination around the edges. The polyvinyl butyral (PVB) interlayer in laminated impact glass can separate after repeated thermal cycling. West Palm Beach’s afternoon thunderstorms followed by direct sun create expansion-contraction stress that the glazing retainer clips must absorb. When the clips corrode or lose tension, the glass edges take the load.
  • Opener reverses or stalls mid-cycle. The motor is detecting excess resistance. Sometimes it’s a misaligned track; more often on Mr-Glass doors it’s a failing spring that forces the opener to lift 200+ pounds unassisted. The opener’s force-adjustment screw is not the fix - it’s a warning.
  • Rust streaks run from the track brackets or roller stems. Coastal salt air attacks the zinc plating on standard hardware. Mr-Glass specifies stainless or heavy-galvanized rollers for HVHZ installations, but we’ve found non-spec substitutions on older jobs. The rust is cosmetic until the roller binds; then it becomes mechanical failure.
  • Visible daylight around the door perimeter when closed. The rubber weatherseal has compressed or the door has settled on worn hinges. For impact-rated assemblies, this compromises the pressure-equalization that the door is engineered to provide during a wind event. The seal is replaceable; hinge wear on a door this heavy usually means the hinge jamb needs shimming too.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

Component Typical Range (Installed)
Single torsion spring replacement $280-$420
Spring pair with cable set $480-$680
Impact glazing retainer clip set (full door) $340-$520
Track replacement (2-inch or 3-inch, per door) $620-$940
Full Mr-Glass impact door assembly (16×7, installed) $2,800-$4,600

What drives the range: door width, wind-load rating required by your West Palm Beach zoning (some areas near the Intracoastal require 170 mph design pressure), and whether the existing track is properly anchored to the header. We quote by the measured survey, not by the phone call. If the number isn’t on the page, it isn’t in the price.

Every replacement includes the documented photo record, the written scope you approved, and the 365-Day Done Right Promise under the Haven Standard. We pull permits when the work triggers them; most spring and hardware swaps do not, but full door replacements in Palm Beach County require inspection.

There is exactly one thing a homeowner can safely check: whether the door’s disconnect cord has been pulled, or whether an object is blocking the safety sensors. Everything else on a Mr-Glass impact door carries real hazard. Torsion springs store enough energy to cause serious injury or death if wound or unwound without proper bars and training; we do not recommend this work for anyone without a winding set and a license. Impact glazing is heavy, unwieldy, and expensive to break - a single 16×7 lite runs $800-$1,400 if dropped.

What we find on failed DIY attempts: springs installed with the wrong wind direction (left-wound on a right-wound application), track sections bolted without shimming that throw the door out of plumb, and glazing retainers hand-tightened to a torque that will not hold under negative wind pressure. Our crews carry torque wrenches set to Mr-Glass spec; we document the reading.
