The series code tells us what we’re working with: WGD for WinGuard Aluminum, WGV for WinGuard Vinyl, PV for PremierVue, and EZE for the Eze-Breeze porch enclosure systems. Each uses different frame depths, glazing stops, and hardware mortise locations.

The WinGuard aluminum series, common along Flagler Drive and the waterfront, uses a 4-9/16″ frame depth with a thermal break. PremierVue moves to a 5-1/4″ vinyl frame with a different sill profile. We’ve seen owners order WinGuard hardware for a PremierVue unit and discover the multipoint lock cam spacing is off by 3/8″. Signs Your PGT Door Installation Is Failing

• The slab drags or binds at the lock stile. In West Palm Beach, this usually means the frame has settled or the hinges have elongated their screw holes. PGT aluminum frames are rigid, but the subsill beneath them can compress if the original installer skipped shimming at the center anchor. The door appears level but the geometry is off by an eighth.
• Water pools inside during a driving rain. The PGT sill cap has a dam and a weep system. When the sweep compresses past 1/8″ of remaining pile, or when the weep channels clog with construction grit, water backs up. • The multipoint lock handle turns but the cams don’t engage. The PGT multipoint uses a gearbox with a spindle interface. Salt air corrodes the spindle collar, or the gearbox grease gums up with humidity. If you feel slack in the handle before resistance, the gearbox is failing, not just the handle.
• Daylight visible at the header or jamb. The glazing bead or door sweep has shifted, or the frame-to-wall sealant has separated. On PGT vinyl units, expansion and contraction from afternoon sun on the east jamb can walk the stop bead out of its groove over two or three years.
• The door whistles in a northeast wind. The weatherstrip has lost compression set. PGT uses a dual-durometer bulb seal on most units; when the bulb collapses and doesn’t rebound, the acoustic seal is gone and the thermal seal follows shortly after.

There’s a short list of checks that won’t make things worse. Verify the weep holes are open with a piece of wire, not compressed air that drives debris deeper. Confirm the hinges are tight to the frame, not the door, since PGT uses machine screws into a reinforcement channel. Look for the label and photograph it.

Where DIY ends: adjusting a PGT frame without a laser level and proper shims transfers the load unevenly and voids the impact rating. Multipoint lock replacement requires releasing the cams in the correct sequence; done wrong, the gearbox strips and the door won’t secure. Impact-rated doors are tested as an assembly, frame and slab together. Alter the anchor pattern or the hardware location, and the assembly rating no longer applies under Florida Building Code.
